ABOUT US

Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892. In 1924, tobacco and electric power industrialist James Buchanan Duke established The Duke Endowment and the institution changed its name to honor his deceased father, Washington Duke.

Duke's campus spans over 8,600 acres (3,500 hectares) on three contiguous campuses in Durham as well as a marine labin Beaufort. The main campus—designed largely by architect Julian Abele—incorporates Gothic architecture with the 210-foot (64-meter) Duke Chapel at the campus' center and highest point of elevation. East Campus, home to all first-years, contains Georgian-style architecture, while the main Gothic-style West Campus 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) away is adjacent to the Medical Center. The university administers two concurrent schools in AsiaDuke-NUS Medical School in Singapore(established in 2005) and Duke Kunshan University in Kunshan, China (established in 2013).

As of 2018, 13 Nobel laureates and 3 Turing Award winners have been affiliated with the university. Further, Duke alumni include 40 Rhodes Scholars and 25 Churchill Scholars. The university has produced the 5th highest number of RhodesMarshallTrumanGoldwater, and Udall Scholars of any American university between 1986 and 2015.[14] As of 2018, Duke also holds a top-ten position in several national rankings.

High school can be a confusing place, mostly in your junior and senior years. You must keep your grades up, prepare and take your ACTS and SATS, participate in extracurriculars, do volunteer hours, and make experiences, all while deciding what you want to do with your future. Throughout high school, Dr. Bradley has always been there to lend me advice. She was the reason that I stayed motivated when it got hard.  She would let all her students know about scholarships that she would find and would encourage us to apply for them. She also kept me informed about deadlines, helped me prepare my personal statement and scholarship essays, and wrote recommendation letters for me. I honestly do not know what I would do without her, even now, that I’m a second-year college student; she still keeps me in check.

My experience with CROP was great! I was able to set up meetings when I had questions, concerns, or needed general advice. The meetings were always as long as I needed and never felt rushed. CROP gave me an experience tailored to my specific needs and ultimately helped me get into my dream school!
